What is a Class B?

A license that allows you to operate a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more but can only pull a trailer the weighs less than 10,000 pounds. Buses, dump trucks, cement trucks, straight trucks and delivery trucks.

• Class B CDL allows the driver to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,001 pounds.

•  Class B CDL allows the driver to operate vehicles with a towed unit that has a GVWR of less than 10,000 pounds using a pintle hook coupling system.

• Class B CDL allows the driver to operate Class C vehicle with proper endorsements**.

• Class B CDL allows the driver to operate vehicles such as dump trucks, tanker vehicles, and straight truck vehicles with proper endorsements**.

 

What do I need to Obtain a Permit?

First you need to pass and obtain a DOT Physical and take a copy to the BMV for their records. Then:

1. You must pass a General Knowledge test at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)

2. You must also pass an Air Brakes test at the BMV

3. And any other endorsements that will accompany your license.
